First Member Network Joins LINX Manchester from New PoP TeleData

The London Internet Exchange (LINX) are pleased to announce the first member network to join their regional IX, LINX Manchester, from new data centre PoP, TeleData.

The London Internet Exchange (LINX) is a not for profit, member owned organisation of networks that interconnect at key locations in order to exchange Internet traffic. This process is called ‘peering’ and the benefits include increased control and security over data transfer and also lower latency, so reduced buffering or lag.

Last month, LINX officially welcomed new partner TeleData to the LINX Manchester network, making them the 4th PoP (point of presence) in the City. Layershift, a cloud hosting provider located in Manchester are the first member network to join LINX Manchester from the TeleData facility.

Damien Ransome, Operations Director for Layershift Limited said;

“Peering at LINX Manchester has improved the quality of our network connectivity almost overnight. As well as the general benefits afforded by establishing direct NOC to NOC communications with neighbouring networks, we’ve been able to demonstrably reduce occurrences of tromboning traffic down to London and back.”

“It’s great to be part of a growing IXP right on our doorstep, and we look forward to LINX Manchester continuing to strengthen and decentralise the connectivity between more UK ISPs and content networks to ensure the overall resilience of the UK’s network infrastructure.”

Jennifer Holmes, LINX CCO said;

“This is a perfect example of the benefits of peering on a regional level. We are so pleased to welcome Layershift to the LINX Manchester community and look forward to assisting them in their peering needs going forward.”

“Launched in 2012, LINX Manchester has gone from strength to strength attracting a productive mix of content and access networks on a local, national and international scale, who value the approach of ‘keeping traffic local’”

The exchange boasts over 140 connected member ports and counting, peak traffic of over 100Gbps and greater than the coveted 99.999 % for reliability. To find out more about LINX Manchester contact a member of the LINX team at joinhelp@linx.net
