Frontier Optical Networks Prepare to be First LINX Nairobi Connected Member

Frontier Optical Networks (FON), a fibre optic broadband solutions provider for East Africa, are preparing to be the first connected network at the new LINX Nairobi interconnection hub.

LINX Nairobi is the latest LINX Internet Exchange Point, launching in Kenya from the new IXAfrica data centre. The facility will provide the region with future proof interconnection solutions for global networks, with the ability to scale alongside the fast-growing digital landscape in Kenya.

“We had some amazing feedback following our visit to Nairobi recently. It was great to meet the local ISP community and listen to their vision for an improved local interconnectivity landscape. We are incredibly encouraged by the positive response to LINX Nairobi, and we are looking forward to welcoming our first official member, Frontier Optical Networks to the LINX community.” – Nurani Nimpuno, LINX Head of Global Engagement

Microsoft Azure Peering Service (MAPS)

LINX is an official partner for the Microsoft Azure Peering Service (MAPS) and one of only a handful of providers in Europe. It provides LINX members with a direct connection to any public Microsoft cloud service, including Microsoft Azure services, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Dynamics 365, or any other Microsoft service accessible via the public internet.

By routing direct through LINX’s infrastructure, networks gain a low latency connection, reliable uptime, and advanced security that simply isn’t possible when using public internet connections. You also get an end-to-end service level agreement that covers your peering services, giving you additional peace of mind that your applications are available exactly when you need them.

New Automation, Self Service and Order Form Features Added to LINX Member Portal

The LINX software team have released new style order forms for LINX member networks adding new services. These include a live pricing tool to configure additional port based services from cloud solutions to increasing peering bandwidth.

New Analytics Features Announced for IX-API

The IX-API development team, run by LINX and fellow exchanges, AMS-IX and DE-CIX, have added some new features, most notably, statistics, to their IX-API standard.

The new statistics feature gives users of the API insight on the amount of traffic that is exchanged via their connection. Moreover, the API access to statistics information, enables customers to include it in their own management dashboards. This provides insights into the performance and efficiency of their connection, which in turn helps with capacity planning and routing design.

All three exchanges will start implementing these new features in the IX-API in Q1 2023.

Malcolm Hutty to Update Members on Important Security Legislation at LINX117

The LINX Public Affairs team exists to obtain advance warning of public policy developments that could affect LINX members and the Internet community as a whole; to inform our members about important policy developments at a time when it is still possible to influence them; and to educate, inform and influence regulators and legislators.

At LINX117 on Thursday 24th November, Malcolm Hutty, LINX Head of Legal & Policy, will again be on-hand to advise on important policy issues. He will be covering a range of topics, notably the Telecoms Security Act and the Online Safety Bill.

QTS Data Centers and the Importance of Internet Exchanges

Business relationships are massively important in the telecommunications industry, especially so for LINX and its data center partners. They play a key role in ensuring that LINX’s 900+ membership base stays connected across its multiple Points of Presence (PoPs) in the UK, and abroad.

In this episode LINXcast host Jez Orbell speaks with Sandy McMurty, Vice President – Connectivity Business Development at QTS Data Centers. It was a great discussion where Sandy talks about his career to date, the history of QTS, and the Northern Virginia region as a communications gateway.
