Cara Mascini
For those who do not know me, my full name is Cara Andrea Mascini- van Bergen, born and living in the Netherlands and with some British and Italian roots. Married to entrepreneur Peter and mother of two daughters, now 21 and 23.
I have been working in the Internet Industry for over 25 years in many capacities. Currently I am employed by Netflix as a director of Open Connect leading the EMEA interconnection and CDN team, though to be transparent I will be leaving this role by summer.
My most applicable working experience is in the ten years of time, end of 2003 till early 2014, that I worked in the management team of AMS-IX, most of you will know me from that period. As CMO I ran all strategic, business development and commercial activities during that time, during which we build out the business, much like LINX did during the same period.
Apart from the specific IX and interconnection experience I have to offer, I worked in the management team at VodafoneZiggo, a listed Liberty Global company. My role there was Director of Product for the B2B unit, including Internet Access and Wholesale (Interconnection) products. At Eurofiber I was also part of the management team as Director of Product & Solutions and involved in starting company CloudInfra and the Dataplace datacenter integration. After that I co-founded my own business in Micro- Datacenters for Edge Computing including interconnect solutions. Following that entrepreneurial project I joined Netflix.
My formal training is in Computer Science with a BA degree from Utrecht University, as well as a dual MBA in International Business from Bradford University School of Management & TIASNimbas Tilburg University. Additional I have Business School certificates in Marketing (NIMA A&B). I also hold a corporate director program certificate from TIASNimbas.
I am running for the LINX board because I care about the Internet, how it is run & governed and that it stays a safe place for all. I can bring a diverse perspective from many angles. For instance from the view of a large member (Netflix), from an international point of view (non-UK) and from my experience on the entrepreneurial and commercial side. All with a broad background in interconnection. The role of the IX in the digital infrastructure is changing and my experiences offer me the vision and position to help govern the challenges and opportunities this brings.
Last but not least, one of my personal reasons for standing is to show young women like my daughters, who are both in STEM fields, that these type of leadership positions in technology environments are possible for women and that it is important to persevere and contribute. Please support my candidacy.
